What information is collected

The newsletter

If you join the mailing list, we collect your email address and the date you subscribed. The list is managed through Mailchimp (Intuit Mailchimp), which also records standard email engagement information such as whether a message was opened and which links were clicked. You only go on the list if you put yourself there, and you can take yourself off it at any time.

Emails you send

If you write to hello@expansivevision.com.au, we keep your message and email address so we can reply and, where relevant, refer back to the conversation later.

The blog

The blog at expansivevision.com.au/blog runs on WordPress. If you leave a comment, WordPress records the name and email address you supply, your IP address and your browser's user-agent string. This is standard WordPress behaviour and is used to display the comment and to reduce spam.

Comments are moderated. Your comment is held until it has been read and approved, so it will not appear on the site immediately. Your email address is never published — only the name you choose to give. If you would like a comment removed at any point, just ask.

Server and security logs

Like almost every website, the hosting server keeps access logs — IP address, date and time, the page requested, and the browser used. The site also runs the Wordfence security plugin, which records similar information in order to identify and block malicious traffic. These logs are used for security and troubleshooting, not for marketing.

What is not collected

This website does not sell anything directly, so no payment or credit card information is ever collected here. There is currently no analytics or advertising tracking installed. If that changes, this policy will be updated before any such tracking goes live.

Cookies and similar technologies

The main website — the homepage and the individual book pages — does not set cookies.

The blog section may set WordPress cookies: one that remembers your name and email if you leave a comment, and session cookies if you log in as an administrator. Wordfence may also set a cookie as part of its security checks.

Typefaces are loaded from Google Fonts. To deliver them, Google receives your IP address and basic browser information. Google's handling of that data is governed by its own privacy policy.

Where this site recommends a book by another author, the link to Amazon carries an Amazon Associates tracking tag, and Amazon sets its own cookies to record that the visit came from here. Those cookies belong to Amazon, not to Expansive Vision, and are covered by Amazon's privacy notice. Links to Belinda's own books are plain, untagged links.

You can block or delete cookies through your browser settings. Doing so will not stop you reading anything on this site.

How the information is used

• To send the newsletter you asked for — new releases, occasional free resources and reflections.
• To reply to messages you send.
• To publish and moderate blog comments.
• To keep the website secure and working properly.
• To understand, in general terms, which pages readers find useful.

Your information is never sold, rented or traded.

Who it is shared with

Personal information is shared only with the service providers needed to run this website:

• Mailchimp — stores and sends the newsletter list.
• Fluccs — the Australian hosting provider that stores the website files, databases and server logs.
• Google Fonts — receives your IP address when typefaces load, as described above.
• Amazon — receives referral information when you follow a link from this site to an Amazon product page.

Information may also be disclosed where the law requires it.

Information sent overseas

The website itself is hosted in Australia, with Fluccs. Website files, the blog database and server logs stay onshore.

Mailchimp, however, stores its data in the United States, so if you subscribe to the newsletter your email address is held overseas and is subject to United States law. If you would rather not have your details stored overseas, please don't subscribe — you can simply check the site or the blog for new releases instead.

Amazon also operates internationally, so information about your visit to an Amazon product page may be handled outside Australia under Amazon's own terms.

Affiliate links and commissions

Expansive Vision is a participant in the Amazon Associates Program. As an Amazon Associate, we earn from qualifying purchases.

This applies only where we recommend books by other authors. Those links carry a tracking tag, and if you buy after following one, Amazon may pay us a small commission. Any page carrying such links says so plainly.

Links to Belinda's own books are deliberately kept plain and untagged. Buying one earns a publishing royalty, as you would expect, but no additional affiliate commission.

Either way the price you pay is exactly the same — a commission comes out of Amazon's margin, not your pocket. Nothing is recommended here because it pays a commission; books appear on this site because they are considered worth reading.

Links to other websites

Books are sold through Amazon, and this site links out to Amazon product pages. Once you follow one of those links you are on Amazon's website, governed by Amazon's own privacy policy and terms. Expansive Vision has no control over, and takes no responsibility for, how other websites handle your information.

Security and retention

The site is hosted in Australia with Fluccs, served over HTTPS, kept up to date, and protected by a security plugin and strong administrative passwords. No system connected to the internet can be guaranteed completely secure, but the information held here is deliberately minimal.

Newsletter subscriptions are kept until you unsubscribe. Blog comments stay published until removed. Server and security logs are kept for a short period and then overwritten as part of normal hosting operations.

Your choices and your rights

• Unsubscribe — every newsletter has an unsubscribe link at the bottom. One click and you're off the list.
• Ask what is held — write to us and we will tell you what personal information we hold about you.
• Correct it — if something is wrong, tell us and we'll fix it.
• Delete it — ask us to remove your email address or a blog comment and we will, unless we're legally required to keep it.

There is no charge for any of this, and we will respond within a reasonable time.

Complaints

If you think your privacy has been mishandled, please contact us first — most problems are quickly sorted out directly. If you are not satisfied with the response, you can complain to the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner at oaic.gov.au (opens in new tab).

Changes to this policy

This policy may be updated as the website changes. The date at the top of the page shows when it was last revised. Material changes — such as introducing analytics — will be reflected here before they take effect.
